FreeGameArts
From MorphixWiki
trcace Like most programmers, I'm a very poor artist. I hate drawing. I hate modelling. I hate having to use the Gimp for anything more than my photo collection. I especially hate modelling using Blender. When it comes to arts: I plain suck.
Okay, now we've got the self-deprecation out of the way, here are some links for Free 3D game media I've found around the place. There really aren't a lot of public domain or Free (Beer/Speech, Debian-DFSG) models that are usable for prospecting Game programmers, but I'd like to share a few I did find. The curious thing is that of quite a few open source games, the license of the models themselves aren't clear.
I've been hunting and downloading collections of models, you can get them on: [1]
An interesting note: there are plenty of open source GraphicsEngines out there.
'Game Models'
- [2] - SciFi models (Startrek, Starwars et al), freedom?
- [3] - Account necessary, 180 Blender models, some pretty good. Freeness unclear, some are more useful than others for games.
- [4] - Only collection I've found where Freeness is taken into account and with content specific for games. About 80 models from OpenQuartz and Hack & Slash, all models are Quake2-centric. GPL, FMP and GiveCredit licenses. Alas, the downloads don't seem to work anymore...
My_eGallery&doshowgall&gid3&p
150-odd 3D Max models (can these be imported with Blender?), Freeness unclear, some are more useful than others for games.
- [5] - 3DS, Poser, Bryce models. Author gives total freedom, nice collection of ancient-greek models, lots of textures.
- [6] - Tons of models, appear to be free-but-give-credit
- [7] - The source is opensource, however the license regarding the models is unclear
'Game Textures'
- [8] - Public-domain textures for games, come from the remains of the makers of Abuse as they dabbled with 3D games.
If you know anymore collections feel free to add them.
