[edit] Here there are the questions and answers related to Morphix Hard Disk Installation, just before login in the desktop..

To see the Installation process go to MorphixHdHowTo

[edit] Root

[edit] Q:What is the root login and password in Morphix installed in Hard Disk ?

Solution: The login is "root" and the password is the password set by you during the installation.

[edit] Xwindow

[edit] Q:I want to determinate the chipset of my graphics card .

Solution : Type . When you receive the output of this command, look for the line that begins with VGA compatible controller. If you don't have the linux driver, you can use the standard '"vesa"' card driver (fbdev doesn't work properly because driver trouble); the vesa driver generally works for 24 depth colour bits.

[edit] Q:Which XFree86 version does Morphix use?

Solution: Morphix actually uses XFree86 version 4.3.0. In any case, you can test it typing :

/usr/X11R6/bin/X -version

'Explicit "Modeline" definitions are not required as of 4.x'

[edit] Q:XWindow doesn't work, so I only can see the console mode in Debian. Where can I see the XWindow log and configuration ??

Solution: Look at the next files

For help, try typing: less $( locate XFree86-crash.HOWTO )

More information :

If you ask for help in a help email list, Better yet, describe your problems, and, if possible, submit just appropriate context from your config and/or log. Full config file is OK. Logfiles tend to get largish, so select copy the (WW) warnings and and (EE) errors

[edit] Q:XFree doesn't run. How can I get a basic setup ??

Solution: let X do it for you; you can try one of the following commands:

 * xf86config  (note: for a text mode).
 * XFree86 -configure and xf86cfg (note:for a graphics mode).

[edit] Q:How can I stablish my monitor settings ??

Solution: you can use XFree86's 'xvidtune' program. Any changes made with it are not saved.

[edit] Q: I can not see the screen, because it's still blinking. What can I do?

Solution: see the XF86Faq.

[edit] Q: After Hard drive install it says (EE) No Screens Found.

Solution: (EE) means error reported in /var/log/XFree86.0.log . No screens found means that Xfree has failed to find a suitable graphics device to use. This usually is because you have the incorrect driver specified in the Device section of your XF86. What is your output when you type lspci -v ?. It should give you a clue. [edit] Q:How can I restore my old XWindows configuration ??

Solution: Your old one should be backed up. Open a terminal, "su" to become root and try:

cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.kxconfig.backup /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

That will overwrite the new configuration file with your old one. See XF86Config-4

[edit] Q: Multiple key presses recognized directly by XFree86 ??

Solution:

Ctrl Alt Backspace

   Immediately kills the server -- no questions asked. This can be disabled with the DontZap XF86Config(5) file option.

Ctrl Alt Keypad-Plus

   Change video mode to next one specified in the configuration file. This can be disabled with the DontZoom XF86Config(5) file option.

Ctrl Alt Keypad-Minus

   Change video mode to previous one specified in the configuration file. This can be disabled with the DontZoom XF86Config(5) file option.

Ctrl Alt F1...F12

   For BSD and Linux systems with virtual terminal support, these keystroke combinations are used to switch to Virtual Console 1 through
