capaso viacvicnori This page is about tunning your Hard disk Morphix with all essential packages to work fine ( this is summary from MorphixHdFaq and MorphixHdFaqUsing ), specially usefull for re-installation (you can print it for this ).
- Update your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 , for xfree86, if necessary (back it up to a floppy disk or CD-RW).
- In gdm go to System / Configure enter the root password,press OK and mark Automatic login and Timed login with the default username(s), i.e. morph.
- Using a root type dpkg-reconfigure locales (to use your root terminal |). Log-out and re-login.
- Update '/etc/apt/sources.list' (back it up to a floppy disk or CD-RW) and don't update Synaptic itself (it delete Nautilus and some other important packages). Only update the Synaptic list.
- Create the /mnt/auto folders for fstab.
- Printers: using Synaptic install the packages cupsys, cupsys-client, cupsys-bsd and cupsys-driver-gimpprint (use the Packet / Search menu in Synaptic to look for "cupsys"). Create a desktop launcher to http://localhost:631/admin.htm and using this link install your printers.
- Using Synaptic install your local OpenOffice.
- Using Synaptic install your local Mozilla version (mozilla-locale package). Import IE / Windows Mozilla Bookmarks, install email/news account servers, Flash player (http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?FlashPlayer , preferly swf-player and update libswfdec0 package), Acrobat Reader (http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?Acrobat) and Java (orp package).
- Install myspell, a spellchecker for OpenOffice and Mozilla.
- Use Synaptic to install httrack and webhttrack to download and print linux documentation in the web (i.e. faqs, howtos and so on). You can create a launcher to http://Linux:8080/ or use the Gnome menu icon to utilize it.
- Use Synaptic to update Gnome Tools and install the applet XKill.
- Install jigdo ( http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?jigdo) to download ISO images (LiveCDs, like Morphix CDs); and alien.
